    Please help...previously I was having issues opening a new ticket with my purchase code. As a result, I sent this new issue request on a old ticket, but did not get a response yet, so not sure it was seen. However, it seem the purchase code is working now, so I have opened the ticket here...so please excuse me for the multiple attempts to get help via email and other support tickets.

    Here goes:

    I am unable to find the option to disable the Grotte theme share buttons on the Catalog /product pages. I am using another WordPress share plugin widget instead.

    I previously found where to turn off the Grotte share button for the blog posts. However, that does not control the ones on the product pages and I need to turn that off as well. For it is creating confusion with the Grotte share option and other share option visible in the same

    Thanks in advance for your quick attention and help with this.

    Best Regards,

    Hey there :)

    Just go to "Appearance > Customize > Custom CSS" and place the code below:

    .social-bar { display: none !important; }

    Hi support,

    I am having three (3) issues and need help resolving, as I was unable to figure them out fully and having problems.

    Since you are allowing me to use this ticket for additional issues, I went ahead and labeled the issues and added an explanation for each one. Please let me know going forward, if you do not like this format and instead prefer me to enter the issues one by one. Thanks again for all your help.

    Issue 1: Theme Customizer keeps refreshing

    To customize the theme, I go to Appearance +Customize. However while I am there the pag constantly seem to be refreshing itself (though I have not change anything yet.).  At this time, it briefly freezes and then in between the time when it refreshes/freezes again, that is the only window of opportunity you have to make a change before it freezes/refreshes again. This significantly slows me down to work with the customizer,  and this seem to also impact other pages, if I open another tab in the browser to look at  change separate from the view it is showing or try to do any other  site activity with the customizer page opened in another tab.

    At first I thought it was because I had the grotte slider set to rotate but this is not the case because when I turn it off,  the customize page still continues the same refresh behavior explained above.

    Please, note this is the only page that does this.

    My computer is fast and can use several tabs and multitask all the time. However, when I open the customizer and to try to edit a few things. Just looking at the page, slows down and hang my computer in between the freezes.

    Could you please explain what is happening and how I can disable or stop the refreshing?

    Issue 2:  Theme Customizer homepage settings

    I am trying to customize the home page settings with the columns and rows but I believe I am doing something wrong or missing something

    a.      In that, for example in row 1, column 1, I may add  teaser code to have a heading, for the next row e.g.

    [grotte_header_and_teaser header="Popular "][/grotte_header_and_teaser]

    Following that, I move to row 2, column 1 and add the shortcode I want to appear under the teaser heading in row 1, So I lose one entire row to just the teaser heading. So in all I have lost 3 rows, just for headings. Is there a way to consolidate the teaser heading and shortcode into the same row slot? So I can show more things on the page?

    b.      Secondly, if I am in row 5, column 1, and I add the following shortcode to show a category example, [product_category category="Category-stuff"]. Before that I would have used up row, 4, column 1, just to set the heading for this row. However, the other issue is, I am having problems adding more than one category to the short code because I have tried multiple ways, but did not show the second category. Is this possible or not? If it is, can you provide the shortcode example to use, so it can show more than 1 categories in one shortcode? Please use example above and extend it.

    c.      Since b was not working for me. I tried to add a second shortcode in row, 4, column 2 and it shows up, but then it resizes column 1, so now both column 1 and 2 are showing, but it becomes extremely tiny, so products showing are two small. Any idea how to control the size so it’s still viewable? Even if it is showing only 1 or two things in that column.

    d.      Thirdly, I added the featured shortcode, to show my featured products and I put it to only show 4 per page and 4 columns, however it is always showing the same thing. Is there a way to randomize this and still keep it showing only  a few products at a time? So at any given time when users visit or refresh page it changes/shows additional products that have been set to featured?

    Issue 3:  Grotte Slider and Slider Groups

    a.      I have the Grotte Slider setup for the homepage and it is working well. However, I was looking for a way to make a silder also show up on other product category pages with different slides. However, instead of going to find another slider, I started to take a closer look at the Grotte slider and notice you can create more than one slider group.

    b.      So I created a new slider group and added a new slide and linked it to that slider group. However, I couldn’t figure out how to make it show up on a product category page. I know the grotte slider works on the home page. But is there a way to make it work on the category page with the setup I am trying to do in a)?

    c.      Or is it only allowed to work only with a regular page and not the category page? And if so how do you get it to show up properly on a new page and not affect the grotte slider home page?

    d.      Or is this only for the home page and I need to get a new slider plugin to facilitate the multiple and independent page views with different banners showing?

    Haha…well that was a lot, but I wanted to make sure I tried to explain fully, as I know you are busy. Thanks in advance for your quick attention and help with this.

    Best Regards,

    Ms. B

    Hi :)

    1) Do you know when did this refreshing issue start? I don't think that our theme causes this. Maybe a 3rd party plugin you use is the reason. And one more thing, have you ever edited the theme files manually? Even a small mistake may cause this kind of problems while coding. You can do the followings:

    • Disable all the 3rd party plugins and try again.
    • Install a fresh copy of Grotte and see if the problem exists or not.

    2 a) Nope, the header & teaser shortcode can only be used like that for now.

    2 b) Just use a comma (,) between category slugs. Like that:

    [product_category category="Category,stuff"]

    For more information about shortcodes, please visit: https://docs.woothemes.com/document/woocommerce-shortcodes/

    By the way, you may prefer to use the grotte_product_cat shortcode. It shows the category title & description by default. Please see: http://www.burnhambox.com/grotte/product-category-shortcode/

    2 c) Please see this ticket: https://burnhambox.ticksy.com/ticket/691348

    2 d) I think you can try the "rand" term for "orderby" argument. Like that:

    [featured_products per_page="4" columns="4" orderby="rand"]

    For more info: https://docs.woothemes.com/document/woocommerce-shortcodes/#section-6

    3) You can use [grotte_slider group="your_group"] shortcode anywhere but some additional coding may required if you want to show it on a product category page. I mean, in header.php file, there's a line like that:

    <?php if ( get_theme_mod( 'brnhmbx_sliderShortcode', '' ) && is_front_page() ) { echo '<div class="grotte-slider-outer">' . do_shortcode( esc_attr( get_theme_mod( 'brnhmbx_sliderShortcode', '' ) ) ) . '</div>'; } ?>

    You can modify this line like below and use it where you want to see the Grotte slider:

    <?php echo '<div class="grotte-slider-outer">' . do_shortcode( esc_attr( '[grotte_slider group="your_group"]' ) ) . '</div>'; ?>

    That's all I can say :)

    Hi Kerem/support,

    Thank so much, for your response....you have said a lot and provided some great info :) .

    I will work on testing them out now and get back to you with an update. However, see my responses to some of your questions and follow-up question in 1b.

    1) The freezing/refreshing issue, started a while back after I got the theme. So it would have to be an early plugin, so I will try to narrow it down first, and then check 1 by 1 if I need to go that route, and let you know. For currently, I have quite a few but very specific ones, half of which are purchased plugins.

    a) No I have not edited the theme directly, to ensure it does not affect future theme updates from you. So a child theme was created from the very beginning named grott-child and even during updates in the customizer the grotte-child is the one you select with the customizer.

    b) If I install a fresh copy of grotte...should I just remove it and leave the grotte-child theme? And a re-install should be OK. Or I need to copy down all the stuff for the grotte-child theme before I reinstall the main grotte theme?

    I will check out the other links and information in my testing and get back to you if I have any issues/additional clarification questions.

    Thanks again for all your help.

    Best Regards,

    Ms. B

    Hi,

    Thanks again for all your help. Please see Followup/Update/Issues-Questions:

    Though this works:  [grotte_product_cat category=clothing-extras number=4]

    Two issues:

    1. I know you gave me the random option for the woo shortcode below and that worked. However, since grotte shortcode allow for the category information to show and I do not lose an entire row just for the description. Is there an option to add the random display and control the number of items that show up at the same time?

    I tried this to increase the amount that shows up and make it random with the following but this does not work. It shows 4 items only and do not change the items, so the same ones are showing all the time and the quantity does not increase to 12: [grotte_product_cat category=categorybag-stuff1 number=12 orderby=rand]

    I figure you cant mix the woo and grotte shortcode, so is there a equivalent option for this?:

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------

    For reference for other users that may need this info

    Working:

    Verified and 2 categories, with 1 row, 1 column works but only with the category slug. So if category name is

    Categorybag & stuff1, when i first put that it did not work, but in one of the links you provided I read where it says to change to category slug e.g. "category-stuff1" and when I did it worked :)...thanks for your help with this:

    [product_category category="categorybag-stuff1, categorybag-stuff 2"]

    Best Regards,

    Ms. B

    Hi again, sorry for delay.

    Sadly, Grotte shortcodes can not be mixed with WooCommerce shortcodes. And "orderby" or "rand" parameter is not determined for Grotte shortcodes. So, it's a no. For now, you can't do that directly unless you edit the source codes.

    Thanks for your response on the last issue.

    I am having another problem with my Site Title. In that when I add the Site Title and tagline and look at the top of the website. It shows the Site Title in front of whatever page title with no space and it also shows the site title at the end.

    For example (no space after the Site Title and the word Customer Service):

    Site TitleCustomer Service - Site Title

    It need to be showing:

    Customer Service - Site Title

    If I remove the Site Title from the customizer, both the front and back Site Title disappears.

    Additionally why is it doubling up and showing at both ends?

    You're welcome :)

    I think you're using Yoast SEO, right? Please comment out the line below in functions.php file:

    add_filter( 'wp_title', 'brnhmbx_wp_title', 10, 2 );

    Like that:

    //add_filter( 'wp_title', 'brnhmbx_wp_title', 10, 2 );

    You shold be OK then.

    Ms. B replied

    I appreciate your follow-up response. Yes I am using Yoast SEO

    However, when I went to the child theme in functions.php the entire file showed the following:

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    <?php
    function register_my_menu() {
      register_nav_menu('header-menu-right',__( 'Header Menu Right' ));
    }
    add_action( 'init', 'register_my_menu' );

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    However, I added this line and updated the file and checked it and the update was there, but it did not change anything.

    //add_filter( 'wp_title', 'brnhmbx_wp_title', 10, 2 );

    Now its showing the following (but keep in mind the line you told me to comment out was not there previously).:

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    <?php
    function register_my_menu() {
      register_nav_menu('header-menu-right',__( 'Header Menu Right' ));
    }
    add_action( 'init', 'register_my_menu' );

    //add_filter( 'wp_title', 'brnhmbx_wp_title', 10, 2 );

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Since its not working, do I need to also add the line to another file? As I am using a child theme?

    Best Regards,

    Ms. B

    Hi :)

    I see. You should just do it in the original (parent theme) functions.php file.

    If you must do it in your child theme's functions.php file, please try to add the following line:

    remove_filter( 'wp_title', 'brnhmbx_wp_title' );

    Note: You can remove the //add_filter( 'wp_title', 'brnhmbx_wp_title', 10, 2 ); part.

    Kerem,

    Thanks so much for the response and helpful information. Basically, the options to  make the updates in the child theme did not work. So I had to edit the main theme functions.pho file. However, since I followed your advice and agree not to edit the main theme and built child theme to do all my updates (which usually works and is best approach since original templates get overwritten with new updates). In this case since child theme update was not working for this (which may mean we we may need a different command or I am not putting it in the right way), I just went ahead and backed up the main Grotte template theme functions.php file by saving it off to a text file. Following that, I made the changes you previously gave me below and that worked. So in future when I update Grotte main template theme, I have to remember to make that one update (for this is the first and last time I hope to be editing  the theme directly...haha :))

    Your response that worked:

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    I think you're using Yoast SEO, right? Please comment out the line below in functions.php file:

    add_filter( 'wp_title', 'brnhmbx_wp_title', 10, 2 );
